Ron Myers and Ryan Barnhart named top school officials
The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals’ Region 11 has named Byron Nelson High School’s Dr. Ron Myers and Northwest High School’s Ryan Barnhart its Outstanding Principal of the Year and Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year, respectively, a top honor in the education profession.
Dr. Myers has served as principal of Byron Nelson for six years and has a 34-year career in public education. He has 24 years of experience as a campus leader across the elementary, middle and high school levels. Dr. Myers earned his bachelor’s degree from East Central University; his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Baylor University; and his doctorate in educational administration, supervision and curriculum from the University of Oklahoma.
Mr. Barnhart has served as a member of Northwest leadership since 2017, and he has five years of experience overall as an assistant principal. He attended the University of Kansas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education and Master of Education degree in sports administration.
TASSP will recognize each regional winner
during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at the Hilton Anatole Dallas Hotel, where they will each receive an award and a commemorative book, “Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.” Each regional winner has the opportunity to advance to the statewide competition, with finalists selected in the fall before state winners are announced in the winter.
Ribbon-cutting ceremony for agricultural center expansion
Northwest ISD’s career and technical education department hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly expanded Kelly Box Agricultural Science Center on Saturday, September 28th. The Kelly Box Agricultural Science Center is located at 1960 Texan Drive in Justin/Fort Worth, across from the district’s administration building, next to the transportation complex.
Northwest hosting first play of the year in October
Northwest High School has set its first performance of the 2019-20 school year, with productions taking place this month. Texan Drama students will perform “Shakespeare in Love,” based on the award-winning movie, on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25. The play tells the fictional story of William Shakespeare as he navigates relationships while writing “Romeo and Juliet.”
Tickets to all performances are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Northwest ISD staff and Gold Card members receive free admission when displaying appropriate identification. Tickets for Northwest’s production of “Shakespeare in Love” will be available online closer to performances.
Groundbreaking ceremony held for district aquatics center
Northwest ISD welcomed community members and representatives from high school swim teams to celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday, October 9th, for the district’s new aquatics center. It is expected to open in late 2020 or early 2021.
This center was included in the last bond, and will include a competition pool and practice pool as well as a sports-performance training center and rehab facility. The latter facility is being staffed by Texas Health through a partnership with Northwest ISD, which will allow district medical students to earn clinical rounds and show health professionals. More to come on this wonderful asset to the district.
District welcomes 25,000th student
With an average annual enrollment increase exceeding 1,100 students, Northwest ISD ranks as one of the state’s fastest-growing school districts.
